Find Similar Files suggestions

1. Keyboard shortcut - Shift+F ?
2. When I select and right click the image/thumbnail and choose "Delete selected file", it's not clear which file is deleted and when I just right click one of large images, "Delete selected file" is greyed out, so perhaps first file should be always selected automatically and - selecting an image and right clicking is so annoying, Delete toolbar buttons are needed, for both images, I suggest to add these buttons (bold):
[Previous] [Delete left] || [Delete right] [Next] . . . [Abort]
If there are more duplicate images, then continue in deletion until just one image remains, then move to next image (as currently by context menu Delete). It would be much clearer and faster then.
2b. Perhaps it's not so easy to change the interface, so if the keyboard shortcuts can't be added, add the buttons "delete left" / "delete right", if possible and then focus the last pressed button, so the Space key could be used to delete a duplicate file, or always focus "delete right".
3. Image path is very important, but currently there is not enough space for it, window cannot be resized nor maximized, so it's even worse, possible solution(s):
- show path in form "D:\...older1\Subfolder2\" instead of "D:\Folder\Subfolder1\Sub", since the last folder is most important
- add ability to resize/maximize window
4. Compare images dialog hotkeys:
ctrl+del - delete left
del - delete right
page up - previous
page down - next
Main shortcut for Compage similar files: Shift+F
5. Don't know the criteria which file is on the left, but I think it's important, because the other file(s) will be deleted, so the file on the left should be the best one, so the post important is the file size (largest file should be the best / original), then date (I'm not sure about this, but oldest file should be original - not modified).

I pointed out the last two and some other things back in
http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?t=10659
The shortcut idea is good, though I'd use ctrl-shift-f. I think ctrl-f makes more sense for filename and metadata search, as it is now.
I notice similarity search causes big black borders around thumbnails in the lower filmstrip now.

ctrl-shift-f is already reserved.
Another idea: Compare images dialog hotkeys:
ctrl+del - delete left
del - delete right
page up - previous
page down - next
Anyway, I think at least Delete buttons would be very useful, what do you think???
Choosing which to delete

If this is possible then I must be just stupid
Can you even delete the left image in the duplicate finder? Many times I need to do just that, but can't.

It's not possile, therefore I have suggested it.
Anyway, at least Shift+F shortcut would be useful, searching in the menu is annoying.

Would be nice to have a list view as well especially for same filenames search. List view could be sorted by column header click with columns such as size date name etc.

Painbunny: "Delete reference+selected" with nothing selected means left-only. That dastardly menu is one of the things I was hoping would be changed before the final; looks like it'll have to wait until next time.

I think from the user interface / ergonomic aspect that dialog is pretty much a complete failure. Let's gather various suggestions to make the dialog better in 1.91 / 2.00.

Okay, what if the reference file showed up also in the bottom line-up? Maybe with a red (or which is appropriate color) rectacle around it. If the reference file is deleted, the next file jumps in the place. Also, the buttons under the images for deleting, as suggested somewhere, would be nice.
EDIT: Also, as I'm new to the forum, I'd like to thank the author for this brilliant application

New ideas..
2b. Perhaps it's not so easy to change the interface, so if the keyboard shortcuts can't be added, add the buttons "delete left" / "delete right", if possible and then focus the last pressed button, so the Space key could be used to delete a duplicate file, or always focus "delete right".
5. Bigger does not always means better quality so it should be user chosen.

It would be nice to have an option to select which one to delete. Can be very useful in case of multiplies (>2) copies of the file instead of deleting them one by one.

I strongly agree the current "reference" terminology regarding image matches is unclear and should be changed to something more intuitive. Nobody wants to accidently delete the wrong image, even if it goes to the Recycle Bin. All that is needed is a little red X on each image (something like Compare mode has) so that the user can easily understand which file is deleted. Presently it seems a bit confusing that there are two distinct "Compare Images" windows--(1) the Compare Images... that shows after selecting Tools/Find similar files and (2) the Compare Images that shows after selecting Tools/Compare. The second window is notably more functional with side-by-side or tabbed overlay view and delete functionality.
Also, a "sort images high-to-low %" would be a very useful option to implement. That way the user doesn't have to jump around but can view the image matches in order of most similar to least similar.
Hopefully developer Pierre-E Gouglet can find the time to make these changes to make XnView even better than it already is.

I too am very confused about the "compare similar" result window.
The feature itself is great (thanks for that), but only allowing to delete the picture that is shown on the right makes it basically useless.
Please, please add some kind of option to choose which picture(s) to delete.
Currently I look at the pictures in the result window, the switch over to my file manager, mark the one that I want to delete (it's always "the other one"...), switch back to XnView, display the next matching picture, switch back to my file manager, mark the one that I want to delete, switch back to XnView....

+1
This feature is really convenient, but I also think that the GUI is not optimal. I would like also to "easily" delete the files I want, and be *sure* of what I am doing.
I have a request/dream: basically, I'm doing every time the same things: my computer/sd cards/etc are really not organized, and I have duplicates and similar files everywhere. But, at least in one folder, I try to clean up all this thing. My dream is simple: a new set of pictures is coming, and I want to put them in the clean/organized folder, I would like to "activate" a window that helps me to not insert a duplicate file. So i I try to put an "existing" picture in my organized folder, the GUI warns me and proposes to discard/delete the "bad" file.
Even if it is not possible or to specific to do that, optimizing the existing GUI to delete similar files will already help me a lot
Thanks for this great software!
