How to open files with cyrillic names?

Does anybody know how to make XnView understand non-latin file names? I have English WinXP. Usually I don't have any problems with cyrillic file names, but XnView (multi-language version) does not display them (???? is shown instead) and fails to open such files.

:) Hello !

• Whether your characters are Unicode, XnView can't display them, this is not supported (yet…)

I'm interested in this as well, since I tend to have a lot of Japanese, Korean and other such languages used in the file and directory names.

Hi,

The topic was started 13 years ago. Have you had a chance to change the things to bring unicode support since that time? I love this software so much I even sent a donation but it's so annoying to see these errors messages.

Pierre did I believe some time back add some limited form of unicode support, but essentially the problem remains. :(

The best answer really is to start using XnView MP, which has full support for unicode, and now supports nearly all the functions available in Classic, among other advantages and enhancements... :D

One tip for new users of XnView MP:

In the viewer, take a good look at File > Format settings... as some important settings, including image save compression settings, are located there.
