1.90 - No images on thumbnails of folders

Hi,

I just tried the final version from the main xnview site, when I set on the options file list tab that folders are displayed in thumbnails I do not get an image on the folder anymore.

I tried setting it to single image or 4 x image in the options thumbnail tab, tried deleting cache and ini file but still no folder image. Worked on RC2 I'm sure. Was going to try RC2 again but it says link does not exist when I tried to download again.

Simon.

Do you have Option/File list/Folder in thumbnail column?

Sorry my mistake please ignore this post! Yes I didn't have the 3rd column checked, never noticed that before. All working fine now.

I have a question now if you would be so kind as to help ...

How does XnView choose what image in the folder to use as the folder thumbnail? I'm getting thumbnails now but I thought it took the first image in the folder, but it doesn't seem to do that now? I previously made a small image called aaa.jpg and had it in each folder so I could make it use that as the thumbnail but that doesn't seem to work any more?

Sorting ?

:) Good evening,

• I suppose it uses the first image according to the current sorting order?
- Not sure, but anyway, I guess it should…

Hello! That's what I thought. I'm sure that's how it worked previously but I can't get it to work now.

OK here…

:) Again…

• It seems to work properly here with 1.90 final…

- I checked several folders and set the sorting “By extension” (same in Total Commander to compare…)
- I get alright the first four files of the first extension (the extensions themselves being sorted as alpha. then)
on the thumb nail of the folder…

It works for me for older folders created pre 1.90 RC3, but new folders I made since using the the final version do not use the first image in the folder. Hmmm!

Cache ?

:) Humm too…

• Could be a cache issue…

- In order to make you sure about this, please try that follows :

1. Find the XnView.db file and rename it i.e. XnView.db.old

- According to your settings, it could be located either in the XnView folder itself –> <cache> (if that sub-folder exists,
or else in the folder-root), or in the <User> WinDung folder for instance,
here it's E:\Documents and Settings\CLAUDE\Application Data\XnView\, lazy M$' boys didn't translate the names  )

• Let be careful : one can have TWO similar files when set in XnView (<cache> and root), I'd an issue with that recently !

2. Start XnView and watch that occurs…

:) Hummm (ter)

• Do you want for RC2 really or RC3 ?

• Normally, the old versions are somewhere in the site of XnView, but only the final ones are stored, I guess…

- So, I could place the one you need (just the EXE packed as ZIP or RAR, please indicate, RAR is better)
for some hours in my own site…

It's the first picture in the folder, not sorting.

Illogical

:) Hi !
It's the first picture in the folder, not sorting.
• Do you mean : Always like the files are on the disk, like the old DIR “DOS” command?
• This is illogical, I expect to see the first file according to the current sorting,
not the fancy layout of the clusters of my hard-disk…

• Please, could you try to improve this ? TIA !

It's to be fast...

Probably is much faster if you have hundreds or thousands of files in the folder, probably makes no difference if you only have a dozen or two. Since explorer does work that way, I'm quite used to thrashing hard drives trying to rebuild some folder thumbnails - one reason I never used them in xnview. (Mostly I just don't like them taking up space though.)

Just chiming in, not arguing either way since I don't use them.
