Problem with Description

the use of a file .ion to drive comments and files is wrong. i use actually a program named faststone to do this collection because that programmer did a well work putting text directly into files (only jpg) so there is'nt mistake between names and files and with a copy of file you copy even text. text can be very long and usefull. my compliments to author for this superb program. thanks Federico.

You have description (descript.ion) used by some application, and embedded comment (Metadata/Edit comment)

text to comment is a unique field that may contain all is described into photo (like characters or what we know of that photo)
in that field we may put many thinghs and we not need other fields for information collection. A search in that field will find all except real colors
because described colors will be founded. It is a very powered field.
Not as it is believed now.

i put many comments to mushroom files (jpg) with faststone
unfortunately faststone doesn't have a column in detail that shows what file has or not comment
xnview support this but has problem with their use (it losts comments if save or modify them). at beginning don't shows all comments and do it only if you sort for comment. bye Fed.

XnView doesn't remove embedded comment from jpeg files, do you reproduce it always?
And about 'at beginning don't shows all comments', you have no comment in the comment column????

i think it is possible only for jpg but even so it is good.
comments are important like image or more ...
we can describe all fields in one field and retrieve coloured images by color description (yellow flowers for example) can say a lot of things and search in one field all.

Just a tipp:
When reading your posts above I see a lot of misunderstandings. Both of you should be precise and clear as possible, this will shorten up things and save both of your time. A sample picture and/or a step-by-step description might help to clarify things.

(I don't want to critisize, just want to help a bit ;-) )

i sent a sample photo of mushrooms with big comment to Pierre and i hope he received it . if you want to generate a valid big comment just download faststone program fsviewer.exe is also freeware with key t appears a window and you can put very large descriptions then open the same file with xnview and will find errors to correct them. excuse language.
