Sorting by Name in Browsers view

I was used to when I clicked Name column the files got sorted standard way, i.e. file preceeding with '_' were first. I kept some file naming system so that files were sorted as I needed and now when I click on the header of Name the files starting with '_' are last in the list, which is extremely annoying. Then I noticed that there is more hidden option to sort by Name and by Name (numeric) but I would like to be able to sort the old way (i.e. non numeric), by default after clicking the header but I can't find how to set it, or if it is possible to be set at all.

Not a real bug, so I post it here, but in fact it is not a good behaviour and even XP that sorts files numeric way, shows _files first :( . Try it, please.

Yes, column click is now 'name numeric', you can only use menu to 'sort by name'

So, could you use standard Windows XP sorting mechanism, so that the files are sorted really correctly, i.e. the way it used to be sorted by both Windows and XnView for many years?

Not sure what other differences are between numeric sorting in Windows and in XnView but at least I would strongly need to get files starting with _ ahead of all others starting by a number or a letter.

And if you want to use this kind of numeric sorting that XnView currently has, it would be at least great if the numeric or standard Name column sorting was a Tool option (F12), so that I could choose former behaviour, i.e. sorting by name simply by clicking a column header.

Please.... :D

to: XnView - it definitely does not provide the same results, regardless how it is done internally. I've just tried it again and files starting with underscores are first in Win XP and the last in XnView.

I do not insist to change it, I just would wish if I could select in the Tools Option former sorting. Otherwise it is pretty annoying when a man uses one program for ages, creates some naming system to fit his needs and one day it gets completely changed and a man does not wish to sort out hunded thousands of files again. Is the point clear? I really do not wish to agrue what type of sorting is used there or not, or if it is better now or not, I just would like to ask you a big PLEASE!! :-))), make an option to make it possible switch back to the old sorting. Moreover sometimes the right click menu does not appear (sometimes yes, sometimes not - did not research the reason yet), so such option makes even more sence.

:) Hi again,
…I've just tried it again and files starting with underscores are first in Win XP and the last in XnView. …
• I'm a Total Commander user for a long while, like you can see in the thread I quote above…
- With that file manager, one gets the underscore at the top, no problem…

- There are options - now even with a GUI to set which sorting mode one wishes…

- However, TC and XnView use the same Win stuff (mainly provided by Internet Explorer !)
thus, we could get the same results…

- I agree that clear options -and another naming- are needed.
