I have been using XnView for some time and started liking it for it's rich features.

I request for a review of the facilities to edit the 'Description' & 'Comment' fields.

At present, in EDIT >> Metadata >> set comment, we have the facility to edit the comment. The entered text may be auto-saved on moving to next window instead of needing to press the write button each time. I use it for adding information for my personal use.

Further, In EDIT >> Describe ..., we have the facility to edit the decription. I place the contents of this field below the picture for the information to the viewer in slideshow and other deliverables. The interface to add / edit this data is not user friendly. One similar to the 'Comment' above may be had for this window also.

Still better, we may have the facility to edit both fields from the same window.

Alternatively, in the browser mode (thumbnail & details view), the fields Description & Comments may be made editable.

So you would like that i merge description & comment dialog box? For non jpeg, the comment will be greyed.

I am presently not using many non-jpeg files. But others may be using and may like to have two fields for all types of files. Is it possible to have TWO fields for ALL types of files with a single and easy editing interface like what we have for Edit >> Metadata >> Set Comment ?

may be a repetition, but is it not possible to edit from the Thumbnails and details View of Browser?

I will re-frame my request, to make myself clear.

Presently, we have in Edit >> Describe, a facility to enter / edit a field by name description for EACH and EVERY file, which i feel will be saved within the XnView database. I feel the interface provided for this window is not user friendly.

In the edit window, I wish to see the thumbnail view of the file with facility by arrows to move forward and backward to go to the next image/file. On moving to the previous / next arrow, the data in the current cell may automatically be saved. (This editing Interface may be similar to what is available in Edit >> Metadata >> Set Comment but has nothing related to the Metadata - comment field.)

On the same lines, I would like have another field by name, say 'Remarks' in the SAME Edit >> Describe... window, which operates on similar lines. I intend to use the Description field for the 'Title' to be placed below the picture in the contact sheet and other outputs and another for my personal information, that will be placed as a field in the Tool Tip. If addition of another field in not accepted, only the present description field may be provided, but with improved interface.

The data in these fields, if considered necessary, may be copied to relevant fields in IPTC data or EXIF data. As on date, I do not use IPTC data or EXIF data and same is the case with quite a good number of people also.
