Support for Lua-filters?

currently we have support for 8bf-filters, but are there any plans on Lua-filters?

but I belive it's a scripting language with which you can for instance make image effects. Feel free to correct me, I've just discovered this, so I'm not sure yet. Gimp (Gimp Lua Script - Gluas), Project Dogwaffle and Artweaver can use plugins for lua-effects and some are excellent! To start with, look at this for instance (two examples incl. downloads):
