If I press ESC key, xnview is quit immediately.

Yes, I confirm the observation.
When Options >> KeyBoard/Mouse is checked, XnView closes on pressing the 'Escape' key. This is understandable.
When Options >> KeyBoard/Mouse is NOT checked, THEN ALSO XnView closes on pressing the 'Escape' key. Is this expected?
Above observation is made with XnView 1.90.3 as well as 1.90.2

This setting is used when you launch xnview with a picture, for example from windows explorer...

Yes, I don't want this. But not good solution, if checkbox controlled this function under settings.

Why not a good solution? Many users want this behavior

Perhaps another general option to disable this option completely is needed.

Isn't it a recurrent request?

Simply speaking, whatever the application, the Escape key has never been designed to quit the application. Only to exit a dialog or a view.
The only exception should be when you launch xnview with a picture, for example from windows explorer... (depending on the setting)

As I just messed up a complete selection of images by simply accidentally hitting Esc this is a very important topic for me.
Are we still discussing this? Then after reading the above postings I would propose the following:
- Esc should always exit the fullscreen viewer
- When the Option "Single Esc exits" is checked XnView should exit after Esc ONLY if starting with an image view (fullscreen or normal). As soon as I hit Ctrl-B or F11 to go to the browser the Esc should NOT exit any more.
Why do I think so? The Esc Key is not meant to close an application (that's Alt-F4), but as the image viewer when opened from explorer is not seen as an application by the user (rather as an extension to win-explorer) the escape key is not wrong here. But as soon as you "work" in XnView, the Esc can mess up a lot by simply closing XnView.
Opening the discussion up again,

The esc key works fine for me. When I have multiple tabs open and hit esc, it closes the current tab. When I'm down to the last tab, esc closes the whole prog. Simple & straight forward.
