XnView Software

When I try to resize nothing happens. I was thinking that maybe I had to resave the file to make it resize. The curious thing here is that if I do that, it tells me that the metadata wil be lost. I don't understand why this should be so if I'm resaving a tiff as a tiff, still. So, this is a double problem. Thanks.

Hello ! Welcome aboard !

• Maybe your original TIFFs are non-standard ? Hence, XnView can't write them.
- I encountered a similar issue sometimes with other formats, and resaving the files worked fine then…
- You might give a link to one of your TIFFs, in order that we test - the Author prior, of course-…
- The supported TIFF is Revision 6 type, IIRC.

Thanks for the reply, Claude, and the offer of help, but what do you mean by send a link to the TIFF?

I was using ACDSee 8 until I got my new laptop which has Vista. That version of ACDSee doesn't work with Vista, and in any case, it's terribly slow at opening large files.

All my Tiffs are 16 bit originally and are converted from RAW files from my Canon 350D DSLR in Photoshop CS2. Some have been converted by ACDSee, but these have then been postprocessed in PS and all are resaved as 8 bit to store.

I really hope that XN View will work for me because it seems to be a great piece of software. If I have TIFFs that can't be opened by XN View it will not be practical as I would have to go reconvert hundreds of TIFFs.

• Since your pics from the camera are RAW, can't you read them directly in XnView ? Just give a glance in the RAW options …

I see what you mean about the link now, Claude. I'll see what I can do about that.

What I meant about the RAW files is tha the TIFFs that I can't resize are converted from RAW. I've only tried to open these TIFFs in XNView. By the way, they do open in Irfanview, and that program will resize them.

What a pity that XNViewer doesn't save EXIF information when converting to TIFF, Pierre.

I do really appreciate that you've made it availabe free of charge, but would urge you to consider fixing this problem, as having EXif details is essential for serious photographers when uploading images to many photo forums/photo sharing sites, as these automatically make the EXIF information viewable for other users.

In the above, I meant to add that many photographers -- like me -- will be converting their tiffs to jpegs to upload.
