"Batch Convert" + "Web Page" for video?

Being able to preview video files as thumbnails is useful, but it would be even more useful to be able to convert that preview still to an image. Is there some way of doing this I haven't found? Trying it on a WMV file a "Format of the file could not be determined" error is given.
If it isn't currently possible, perhaps for a future version of XnView?
On a similar note, would it be possible to add an option to automatically cut frames out of a video every X frames / every X seconds?
