Recently I had a fault with the camera and exchanged it under warranty.

This means that all the images with the new camera start at 00001.

Is there software that will enable a block renumbering of the new camera images to follow on from the last image of the old camera?

There are many renaming programs available. http://www.snapfiles.com/get/easyrename.html is an excellent one, and easy to use (as the name implies). http://www.snapfiles.com/get/mrename.html is a more powerful one, but with a somewhat steeper learning curve.

Of course, you'll have to rename every pic you take from now on if you want to keep with the numbering (too bad you can't make the new camera start numbering where the old one left off). You might be better off renaming the old pics to make them appear before the new ones. ie If the current names are "Camera Photo 0001.jpg" change it to "00 Camera Photo.0001.jpg" or "Camera Photo 00001.jpg", etc. That way you could just rename the set of images once and forget about it (until you need to return the camera agin of course). The drawback of course is that you'd have a break in the numbering where it'd jump from 00123 (or wherever the old cam left off) to 0001.

I think I have found a way.

Use an empty flash card, take a picture to create a directory. Using the USB connection copy the last picture taken with the old camera to the new camera. Remove USB and take another picture and it will be the next one in sequence to the old camera picture. This assumes that the new camera image numbers are lower than the old camera image numbers. It does not work the other way round. It may not work if the image has been re-named. I have not tried it.
