Create a thumbnail gallery from a video file (A great Idea)
Hi, everyone at Xnview I am a mega fan of this program and use it all the time, a big thanks to the creator/developing persons
My request is that Xnview should be able to create a thumbnail gallery image (jpg, png, bitmap) from a video,
like this for example that I made for people here at
Xnview, it is a good rough idea of exactly what I mean
http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/5489 ... pl8rw0.jpg
ImageGrabber II and Media Player Classic can do this but I don't like using there programs I want to do it with Xnview.
It should not be hard to write into the app as Xnview can support images and videos and can also take snapshots of videos and images.
A small dialog box can also pop up in where you can specify some things (custom name, how many images in the thumbnil) before the frame by frame thumbnail is created.
Please Xnview developer or key people consider this feature I would look greatly forward to seeing this feature.
Thanks

Just one question will this like the other features that you have agreed to make it in the next version of xnview and if so how soon is it till the wait? - thanks

Also for this feature would codecs or any other form of direct x be required because I rather wish they wouldn't - I like xnview the way it is and am glad that the programs popularity is growing and new features like this one are being added.

When is the next version expected and also where can I see a list of planned new features and bug fixes implemented,
ps. With this feature could you add xvid codec support and does this feature really need directX
thank you Author,

• Anyway, a nice idea, IMHO.

Not to burst your bubble or anything, but you can already do this. There's a feature that let's you extract screens from movie files and there's the contact sheet feature. If you use them in combination, you can already do what you suggested without the need for another feature.

Nope, the thumbnail feature would be better, the thumbnail image generated from video should be just a straight forward process without having to do one operation and then another, plus you forget that each thumb would contain time stamps, have you seen the example image I posted above
Not convenient

Hello !
• It seems that you didn't get that
budz45 means and wishes (according to his image and the softs he quotes).
The current feature is totally inconvenient, since the goal is - if I understood correctly- to take a sample each
n… frames
or each
n…% all along the duration of the video, extracting and saving them
then to display as a board of thumb-nails-like or so.
Currently, the extract feature can only extract a certain amount of frames at a certain location of the video,
but can't perform that he says…
- If one attemps to do this “by hand” using the current stuff, it could take ages, with a dubious result…
• Hence, that request is sensible.
- I looked at a small video I've here, no more than 1:08 minute, it contains 681,273,469 frames for > 1GiB uncompressed…
Good luck to make a balanced sampling…
• The main stuff already exists in XnView, just either add options on the current extract dialogue,
or add a specialized small dialogue-box could be sufficient…

• Maybe I will draw some mock-up for this…

I strongly agree with this one (nice one clo), the 'extract frames' should actually just add the option of thumbnail creation on intervals (example. every 20 seconds of the video), specify collumns and background colour, text - that's all we/I need - Pierre should be reading this
BTW - the thumbanil creation should not require any DirextX or runtime as Xnview can already extract frames without al of that, he thumbnail creation should now I believe be intergrated into the 'extract frames' feature - 'thumbnail created by xnview' can be added (as authors like to add this), I dont mind though on that one.
Enough said by me, If Xnview said he would add it in by next version then I wait...It wouldn't be that long

The proverb is right…

Again…
•
“To say is well, to make is better…” (French sentence). So, what about this ?
• Note : On the original dialogue-box I used, currently a frame is missing for a field (red circled)
