xnview is great for me but just a few things I would like to point out to assist for next release...

1. The location of the .ini (configurations) file, by default I think that this file should not be created in the users 'Application Data' folder, I would just like if it could be made in the same folder as the main exe (where xnview.exe is), this would be far better and would mean instantly that my settings are read from my USB key rather than being created and read from the windows users 'application data' xnview.ini , can this be changed or at least an option made for this in which could enable configurations to save in local location (where xnview.exe is) would enable portability too - please Mr. Gougelet, I really want this!

2. Viewing Icons (.ico) in viewer - I would like the 'options' option to turn off different size views of icons, I view an icon in the viewer and then Xnview prompts me to view differetn sizes (excllent feature) but I would like the option to turn it off/disable that and just plainly have the viewer display default icon size - would be very nice

3. In tools>create strip of images - I would like to specify more settings like resize all images to.., column numbers, etc. With this tool I could create a thumbnail gallery from multiple images added more extra settings for fun can be a 'film strip' effect and 'border' for thumbs


I would greatly appreaicte these idea fill ins, I now use this program as my deafult viewer for all image files on my system, I also want to take it around wqith me and have the program read the .ini ilde from the same folder that the exe is in

'prompts me'??? But there is no dialog before to view .ico file??

OK, have set it works for the .ini settings file and the two other small files, so thanks it is no longer in 'application data' but in my Xnview program folder - I also notice that settings take effect when you restart the progrom, but what if i wanted to copy my xnview program folder to my USB stick would Xnview still read the settings from the same .ini or would it create new settings on another machine, please help


2. Viewing Icons (.ico) in viewer - well this is what I get on some icons, I would just like the option to turn it off and just display any default size, it is however a very nice feature as icons files do contain many separate sizes for explorer viewings. It is 'multiple icons'

I just want to turn that little promt off and view an entire gallery of icons seamlessly.

Which settings do you want?

Pretty much what cleo mentioned orignally requested.
create strip of images > we should be able to specify:

• resize of all images in strip to specific - Irfanview can do this eg. 90x90, 150x150 etc.
  add background colour
  add thick or thin borders,
  few creative features (just a few for now) - filmstrip effect,
  amount of collumns
  add copyright - very good for commercial licence holders
  separators, wrapping to get a “Comic-like” effect - clo said this
  background shadows
  all image filters - black & white, sepia, old and faded

these would be fantastic settings, testing can be done by 'us' the members here or released to the public as a beta, what do yo think Pierre, lemme know if it will all take a long time?

• Sorry, I have been hurried and couln't find all threads about the “Strip of Images”, I'll search a.s.a.p. for that.

…I just want to turn that little prompt off and view an entire gallery of icons seamlessly.

• Many years ago, I requested (via e-mail prior) to display the multi-page icons
as a board of thumb nails in the browser, this is much better.
- Let's notice that this kind of display has existed in Uniview (no more maintened),
but just in one version, then removed (G.O.K. why…)
- It should be nice, but at first sight not very simple, since that needs to extract all pages into a temp folder,
then to call that folder to be displayed in the browser, then either move the content in a special data-base,
or remove it to purge the temp folder.
- Anyway, if this could be done, I'm indeed in favour and support such a feature.

• Of course, look at the Image (Binary=B&W) and filters menus >> Table sub-menu >> Sepia…

Silly me - yes it does work, I tested it now on two other machines

From quickly reading over this topic I have the impression that "create strip of images" is used in the style of "Contact sheet", here. The contact sheet might be the better place for adding these features. Strip of images and contact sheet might be even combined. Just an idea...

Is it .ico or .exe?? For .ico, i don't have a prompt dialog...

- Elsewhere, like budz45 points out, I proposed too a wrapping V. or H. …

- Please, notice too that the wording in this dialogue is not totally convenient, as well in English as in French…
- There are better strings in the LNGs template we sent to you.

that multiple icons select prompt is preventing me from using this nice image viewer.

i can't possibly put up to dialogue interruptions while skimming through images from a folder of various files (including .exe's, .ico's and whatever trigger that dreaded prompt).

please put option to remove viewing icons alltogether, thanks
