Different icons depending on file types?

Hi,

is it possible to change the icons that are shown in windows explorer depending on the file type? I know that e.g. ACDSee provides this feature and I really like it. It would be great if the user could set the icon for each filetype.

In XnView you cannot set different icons per file type, but you can set this in the MS Explorer:

1.) Start MS Explorer
2.) Select "Extras->Folder Options"
3.) Select the folder tab "File Types"
4.) In the list of file types, select the file type you want to assign a special icon.
5.) Select the button "Edit" to edit the file type.
6.) In the sub dialog "Edit file type" set the icon you like by using the button "Other symbol". You can choose one of the icons provided by XnView or a completely different icon by selecting "Search..."

Note:
I have a German Windows, so some of the menu items above might be labeled differently.

Won't be cool an option/button/something at Options to "Associate using XnView icons"? This will be near to current options to associate files with XnView.

If you associate filetypes by XnView/Options/Association, the most used formats have different XnView icons.

Would be nice to have a different color for each icon. They look very similar, esp. when you have small icons in your explorer view.

I agree with you... a bit more difference (colors, design..?) would be better (feel free to contact me if you want some help about icons, I can do it for you).

:) Hi All !
- You can always change an icon for any file-type from Windows :
StartMenu >> Parameters >> Folders Options…
- Also from Total Commander (if you use it) :
Files menu >> Associate with… >> Edit Type > Change icon

• Indeed, an icon-folder with other specific icons in the XnView dir. should be nice; but each user can create this by him/herself.

 Kind regards,
