:) Hello ! Welcome aboard !

• You have it already for ages !
Options (F12) >> Keyboard mouse >> Right button >> Combo-box.

- To move the image, you must keep the RMB pressed, that shows the grab-hand cursor, I use this daily for a decade… :P

 Kind regards,
Claude

yeah... well... but i mean something else...
1. I select a part of a picture = left mouse button
2. I zoom it = left mouse button in selection
3. and now  i want to specify the selection (not the size of the selection, but only the position of the selection) => when i press a right mouse button at the selection and move the mouse, the picture is moving (not the selection) => and i want to move the selection not the picture :|

so here's mz suggestion and an option that i'd like to have there 8)

In the options you have "Zoom in" for "Left button use in selection". With the Ctrl key you can "activate" the other action, which is "Move selection" in your case.

That means:
When pressing Ctrl key in the selection the cursor will change and (keeping Ctrl key pressed) you can move the selection with the *left* mouse button. I think this is what you want to achieve.

that's it :!: thank you a lot

on the other hand, this option would not take a lot of time to implement into xnview

It's an old issue / bug(?). When you'd use the right button to make selection, then you could move a selection with the right button - but it doesn't work vice versa. Perhaps it's a good workaround for you though.

Perhaps no new option is needed, just always use the other action for the right button - if "Left button use in selection" is set to zoom in, set "make selection" automatically for the right button and vice versa.

Everyone thinks that, but no one really understands how much time it really takes to implement new options, let alone create and maintain a gui for them and then test them every release, until they've been there.

to dreamer - that first trick with right button works. but i don't want to learn other setting-up of the mouse buttons.. now i will use that ctrl (until it will/would be updated..)

and i don't understand the point of that second sentence.. sry. (i don't want to use right mouse in selection for making the selection, but for moving the selection).

i think, that this my suggestion is logical 8) there is option for left mouse button, for right mouse button and for left mouse button in selection. why there is no option for right mouse button in selection :?: in addition, irfan view use this control and i think it's more comfortable to use mouse without keyboard (when it is possible). and for people that were using irfan view (as me) it's better to have an opportunity to control this perfect program in the same way as irfan. so, i'm just trying to give a tip to developers to have more comfortable software :)

Sorry, of course, it should be:

"Perhaps no new option is needed, just always use the other action for the right button - if "Left button use in selection" is set to zoom in, set "move selection" automatically for the right button and vice versa."

BTW If you like "to use mouse without keyboard", do you know the mouse shortcuts? You can switch images, zoom in/out, lock zoom, fit image - more here.

i think i understand you. that i use right button for making selection, then right button in selection works for moving selection and left mouse is for moving picture and left mouse in selection is for zooming... ok?
anyway, i'd be rather to have this small improvement :) the only thing that i can do is to write here. so i did.

that hint about mouse shortcuts is very useful. thanks :) i will use that.

Right, it works good if you use a right button to make selection and left to move move an image - but it doesn't work vice versa - this might be considered even as a bug :bug: , since a right button is useless with this setup.
