Optimization for Animation Frames

I use XNView for viewing animation frames. There are MANY animation frames and they are frequently viewed across a network. I do all my viewing in list detail mode... not thumbnails.
So for example, I might be looking at a directory across the network that contains 10445 animation frames.
I was doing this recently and it seems slow and XNView crashed while trying to do this.
What I am wondering is are there any optimizations that can be set to make this process faster and more stable. For example, I know this is a lot of frames. I do NOT want to have thumbnails generated for all the frames in the directory. I merely want to see the list of frames and when I click on a single frame... see it in the preview thumbnail. When I double-click it, view it in the large view. If I click the spacebar, show me the next frame, etc.
I usually only need to view a few specific frames to check for errors, etc.
Are there settings that will optimize this type of viewing?
Thanks!
