slow browser opening (win98)

Since the recent releases (1.91.3 ?), I´m having an unusual delay in the startup. I installed 1.91.5 last week when I finally solved my problem and here is my shortened report:
First I unchecked the "Launch Browser at Startup" (General/Startup). XnView showed up fast in the next ran but clicking "Browser" button revealed the actual slowdown victim.
Then I changed "Folder used for other files" (System integration) from "XnView" to "User" and the Browser opening became normal.
Anyone else having an slow browser opening when using XnView folder for other files ?
Thanks, Bruno.

Hello,
I had the same problem, but it is now fixed with version : 1.91.5 .
The keyway is to delete (restored by default) or ( improve the size in your XnView directory ) of the file : category.db
With a category.db (= 7ko by default) I have 2 or 3 secondes.
With a category.db (= 80ko) I had 15 secondes.
Fortunately the category.db behavior is now fixed in V 1.91.5
Have a look here ( if you can read the French):

The strange thing is that I hadn´t any Database item checked (Browser/Thumbnails/Icon info). Anyway, I followed your suggestion and erased the category.db (43Kb ?) file.
Now I have a fresh category.db (7Kb) and switching "Folder used for other files" value don´t affect the Browser opening time.
Thank you.

Is your "Folder used for other files" (Options\System integration) is set to :
"XnView" or "User" or Custom ?
Because maybe you have more than one category.db files, and you have to update the good one !
Strange because by this way , for me it's OK for all cases now ("XnView" "User" and "Custom") and affects the Browser opening time.

Sorry if I didn´t made myself clear in the last post. Let´s try again
As stated before, I erased the category.db file at XnView folder. So I guess I had a bad one at XnView folder and a good one at User folder. This would explain why it was slow using XnView folder and why it became normal using User folder. Now It´s OK (browser opening fast for both option).
Thanks for your support.
Regards, Bruno.

Is there any way to save the category database before deleting it? Or do I just have to recreate the information?
