I needed to batch convert all portrait pictures in several folders. So I wanted to sort them. But I had now problems with version 1.90 and 1.91.6. Sort by image size, image width or image height take no effect, as well as clicking onto the properties column in details view. I renamed the ini file with no positive effect.
For this purpose I reinstalled version 1.8. There it works fine.
I hope you can fix this problem.

I can't confirm, for me, the sort by width/height works correctly...
Could you post a screenshot?

Thanks for your response. Here the screenshots under Windows XP:

Descending

If I select image width or image height the selection point is always at image size.

Image size (Bildgröße) is the total number of pixels of the image and is calculated:
Image size = Image width x Image height.

Most of the images in your screenshot above have the pixel size 1744 x 1296 Pixels (or 1296 x 1744, which is the same). If you sort those images by image size, there's little that XnView can do and will do, because most of the images have the same image size. Only the images with 1296x1744 pixel change their position, because these are smaller than all the other ones.

Does this explain your problem? Or perhaps you intended to sort by File size (=Größe)?

Hallo helmut,
you misunderstood my problem:
If I select image width or image height the selection point is always at image size.
I cannot sort by "width" neither by "height". XnView automatically selects "image size". Even if I click onto the column header "properties".
In version 1.80.3 the files were sorted numerical first by width then by height when I selected "sort by size". In 1.9 the behaviour is different.
Does it work with your PC?

In version XnView 1.92 beta this is fixed - thanks, Pierre!

I think I understood your sort system: You sort first by my sort criteria and if there are several similar the second sort criteria is always the name.
e.g. sort by height:
2007-09-22-F0709.JPG 1744x1308,16M
2007-09-22-F0710.JPG 1744x1308,16M
2007-09-09-F0597.jpg 1308x1744,16M
2007-09-09-F0598.jpg 1308x1744,16M
2007-09-22-F0720.JPG 1296x1744,16M
2007-09-22-F0721.JPG 1296x1744,16M
2007-09-23-F0722.JPG 1308x1744,16M

What I would like is to select several sort criteria one by one. e.g. I first select sort by width and afterwards sort by height then the program should remember the first sort criteria and sort by height and then by width:
2007-09-22-F0709.JPG 1744x1308,16M
2007-09-22-F0710.JPG 1744x1308,16M
2007-09-22-F0720.JPG 1296x1744,16M
2007-09-22-F0721.JPG 1296x1744,16M
2007-09-09-F0597.jpg 1308x1744,16M
2007-09-09-F0598.jpg 1308x1744,16M
2007-09-23-F0722.JPG 1308x1744,16M

I am so used to this feature from the program mp3tag that I didn't think it could be different. I think this is how excel / OO calc is doing it too.
