(Problem solved) Distorted aspect ratio on JPG

Hello

I had XnView 1.80.3 and everything was perfect.
So I recently updated to XnView 1.90.6 and I have now a distorted aspect ratio on some .JPG pictures.
Not all...but some.
I don't understand this as all pictures come from my camera as the source.
I don't have this problem with any other graphic editor software.
In my other computer with the XNView 1.80.3 everything is fine.
Any way to solve this problem?
Thanks.

Luke

Sure I can do it.

Dear XnView
New observation...

If I load this image or some others that don't show right on aspect ratio, and I click on "Image/Resize", the feature "keep ratio" is unchecked.
If I check it, the image becomes normal.

If I load an image that looks right and go in "Image/resize", the "Keep ratio" is checked.

So this "keep ratio" feature status seems to change from image to image.

Bizarre, n'est-ce pas?

Bjr Luke123

try this, svp:
  • Make a copy of your file.
  • Open the copy in XnView.
  • In View mode, go to Image » Set DPI....
  • Enter the same value for X and Y (p.ex. 72/72 or 96/96) and hit OK.
  • Save the file.

:) Hello ! Bonsoir,

• Your sample is not a JPG, it's a BMP 1.5 MiB…
- Renamed as .BMP, it works in M$ Paint ! And it's displayed nicely.

Cher Claude

Merci pour ton approche.
Mortecouille!
Enigme!!!

Dear Claude
Thanks for your approach.
Dead testicle!
How can you deduct that this it's a BMP file?
I never converted any of my photos in such a format.
I can confirm that this IS a JPG file.
Like all others, though.
And like you say, it opens OK in Paint.
Even if you rename the suffix from .JPG to .BMP.
Enigma!

:) Again… Re !
…Comment peux-tu déduire que c'est un fichier .BMP?
… How can you deduce that it's a BMP file ?
• Very simple : Just looking at its size !
- Testing it with the canvas function, then, I saved it, and the programme saved as JPG, since it had this extension ! Surprise :
The size was then 371 KiB only, instead of 1,5 MiB before ! That set me thinking…

Thanks for the reply but...
No. This did not change anything.
I just tried the same JPG file in another computer with XNView and while it displayed perfectly fine in this computer, the reported DPI numbers in "Image/Set DPI" were the same in both computers.
I found that following my observation in my preceding reply in this post, all I have to do after having checked "Keep ratio" in "Image/resize", is to save the modified file.
And that's it.
Next time it shows OK.
Weird solution for a weird problem.
But I still love XnView!

So, it's a jpeg with strange different DPI for X & Y!
You can disabled option/General/Adjust zoom if X/Y dpi...

Way to go Pierre!
This is the solution.
Thanks very much.
