IPTC tag search problem

Pierre,

I tried a search of IPTC tags (all file types) on my main photograph folder and its sub-folders.

Twice in a row the computer was spontaneously re-booted whilst doing the search.

To try and identify a "problem" sub-folder I repeated the search on each sub-folder individually. No errors occurred and the results were as expected.

I then repeated the original search on the main photograph folder and its sub-folders and there was no problem. This was done twice.

During a third test an error message was generated stating that an error log had been generated by XnView. At the same time I noticed that the all the 2Gb on RAM was used (usually during such search operations only a portion of it is).

Questions:
Does this indicate a memory leak?
Where is the error log found?
Can other testers reproduce this problem during substantial searches which include many files and/or sub-folder?

PETER

If you don't use IPTC for search, do you have problem?

I repeated searches of folder/sub folders (containing about 20000 images) a number of times (about 2 x 5) using either IPTC or EXIF tags as the search key. The error was never produced while searching EXIF but occurred twice using the IPTC.

Incidentally another issue may have appeared in the beta: when I copy category filter results to an empty folder the images copy correctly but then an error message relating to something like "unable to read" is displayed repeatedly. This has happened a number of times.

I really appreciate the inclusion of IPTC NEF tags.

Thanks

PETER

No, the majority (at least 12,000) are jpg.

Regarding the copying error I mentioned above, the error message is: "Cannot copy file: Cannot read from source file or disk".

Even if you try with IPTC?

So the problem is with RAW IPTC support, could you try with beta 2, there was a little error in IPTC?

OK ..... but may not tonight (now 01:20am).

I will do a couple of searches now and if you don't hear from me then at least they were ok. Otherwise I'll will do a more thorough test tomorrow.

Pierre,

Did many repeated searches with different keywords and the problem finally struck again (as I was writing a "fixed" message to you!).

I then repeated searches using the "Format" set as either NEF or JPG in addition to the IPTC in the search options. Unfortunately the Format setting does not seem to work. If I select NEF Format the results of the search include JPG files as well.

[Edited] If I select NEF, RAW or JPG in the search options, the results are always 456 files found, the majority of which are JPGs.

Your NEF files have IPTC?

Only started regularly IPTC tagging the NEF files a few weeks ago so of the 20000 files in the search there's probably around 700 to 1000 IPTC tagged NEFS.

By now you have probably received an email containing screenshots of IPTC tags. I sent them in the hope that they might help diagnose the problem.

And if you create a folder with only some NEF files (with IPTC), and make the search, do you have the problem?
