resize window on smaller pictures

I've come from using IrfanView to XnView as XnView is faster and doesnt crash all the time when changing thumbnail folders. There's one thing I miss from IrfanView that I can't seem to find in XnView, Thats the ability that when viewing pictures is to make the window fit small pictures but still scale down big pictures to fit on the desktop. At the moment when I view a smaller picture it's resized upto the window size.
Thanks

So you can try 'Fit to desktop', it's perhaps that you want?

Thanks thats it, Not sure what I did wrong when I tried every setting before. Also is there a way to get XnView to open it's window in the top left of the desktop instead of the center of the desktop ?
I have selected in tools » options » interface » remember last window position/size. But every time I click next/previous image the window jumps to the center of the desktop.

No, it's not. You will soon realize that having the program window maximized (like preferable with the browser) makes XnView default to this, so all small pics are shown with the viewer in maximized program window size again.
But I must say that it is no problem for me. Unusual at first, got used to it. And for small files I now often use XnView within TC (ctrl-q). More quick too...and I also don't get bothered by the 'APFL Ghostscript not installed' message when viewing EPS files

After using XnView for a while it becomes VERY anoying that when switching from a small picture to browser mode that the window is VERY small. And it seems to take longer to keep resizing the window in browser mode than it was to restart irfanview. So although I do prefer XnView for it's speed and layout I can't keep resizing the browser window. So I'm forced to go back to IrfanView until this bug is fixed

Yes, I too think that it is necessary to remember the browser window state/size independent from the viewer. Just not sure when this will be implemented. AFAI can see all the 3,000 up posters in this forum do not need such functionality, so it will hardly make it on the 'next-to-change' list...
