Questions about some options & menus

In browser, RMB menu for filelist pane, Preview submenu:
What for are the options: "Show text file" and "Show HexaView for unknown file"? How can I see them 'in action'?

"Remove EXIF thumbnail"- does this mean removing embedded jpeg thumbnail from a file in raw format?

What are the two options: Conbright and Gammasat? What kind of operations (or transformations) they actually perform?

How do I display following menus:

The one with option "Fit image to Desktop, all", pop-up type (BROWSERPOPUPMENU8)
The one with option "Copy to Clipboard" (COPYCLIPBOARDMENU; seems the only option in the menu).

TIA
X.

Show text file : When a file is a text file, show it
Show hexaview : When a file is not a picture, movie or text, show it as hexa view.

Yes

2 specials functions to enhance brightness & gamma.
How do I display following menus:

In the preview area

In properties/EXIF or IPTC to copy data in the clipboard

When colour mode is not correct for saved format. For example, you try to save a 256 colormap picture in jpeg.

Thanks!

Another 2 questions:

In lossless JPEG transform:
Keep original date/time attributes - does it refer to EXIF data or file attributes?
Reset EXIF orientation value - I suppose it refers to EXIF orientation flag; what happens to this flag after rotation? Is it deleted or changed to some other value??

Unfortunately I do not have any pictures with exif data to try myself :(
TIA

Thanks Clo, however I have troubles downloading this :(
"Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required 'mainfile.php' " and some other stuff. Anyway, I am on dialup till January and d/ling a few MB file may be an issue for me.

Another set of questions and problems:
- How to display window titled "Text settings"?
- Options -> Viewer->Don't start browser thumbnail - what does this do? Seems like opens Browser with no directory selected, all folder tree folded, and forgets settings for Starting folder?
- Options -> Viewer->"Use Shell context to open picture" - does it mean "use shell 'open' command to open picture", like RMB in Explorer and then select Open?
- Options->Viewer-Thumbnails->Flat style - what does this do? I can not see any effect of changing this option?
- Options: What for is the "File types" pane used? I tried unchecking all but XnView still opens fe. jpegs and tifs.

Other issues:
- after disabling "Show text file" and "Show HexaView for unknown file" with RMB menu, they cannot be enabled again using this menu, it is possible only by using options in Options Window- seems it is not OK?
- For what kind files I can display BROWSERPOPUPMENU8? Normally only BROWSERPOPUPMENU6 is displayed.
TIA
X

Try again---

:) Hi again !
- Options -> Viewer->Don't start browser thumbnail - what does this do?…
• This is an option I requested myself years ago; working under Win 3.1 with XnView for Win32S addon, the lack of that option caused:
1. The browser tried to open the first drive of the tree, so the floppy A:\ which was empty the most times,
and that hung the PC…
2. Or else, the browser opened the first directory in the tree, or any directory containing a lot of pics (previously opened in the main window), and caused too a crash, because not enough memory (16 MB maxi. supported under Win 3.1 only).
- With that option, not any dir. is open, so you can choose and display the dir. you want for, and only this one -or a favourite- after launching the browser. I use this still, even under XP-Pro with 1 GB-Ram at now, I guess it's more logical and "comfortable", from my point of view…
- Options->Viewer-Thumbnails->Flat style - what does this do? …
•  It works for me : that removes the frames around the thumb-nails, they are displayed "flat" on the thumb-nail background colour you chose…
- For what kind files I can display BROWSERPOPUPMENU8? …
• There are three different RBMs in the thumb-nails window :
  1. On a thumb-nail itself,
  2. On an empty area of the thumb-nail board,
  3. On the lower area where you can display a selected thumb-nail (one L-click or Drag & Drop)
- Note : as soon as possible, I'll try to update the original English Help adding these details, I did that for the French one only, sorry :|

Hello Clo!

I got the picture. And thanks for reply :)
Now, I have found where 'Text settings' window is :) but still new questions emerged :)

- Options->Misc->Open a windows per picture- what does this do? I thought when unchecked XnView would open pictures in one View window, replacing the previuos one, but regardless of setting, for every double-clicked picture in browser a new View window is opened?
- Options->Misc->Single ESC to exit- Single press of ESC closes XnView windows regardless of setting of this option, so, what does it do?
- Options->Misc->For 'Save as', use same original pathname && format - what does this do? I tried saving a file with this option on and off but it seems there's no difference?
- I guess I need to d/l DejaVu and LuraWave plugins to display windows with their settings?
- Options->View->Force XnView to fit image- what does it do here? Regardless of setting, Fit Window to Image option in Auto Image size seems to take precedence over it?
- Options->View->Display unit- what is it used for?
TIA
X :)
P.S. I just to want to be sure what all options exactly mean when veryfying translation :)

:) Glad to help you---
- I will treat your new questions offline too, and will check the functions.
- I'm always interested in the right translations issues ;)
- Currently, this is not easy with the DLL-system :P … Though Pierre is too busy currently, I hope he should switch to good text-files for languages, soon or later (I would much prefer “soon” !)

No, when you use File/open and you select more than one file.
- Options->Misc->Single ESC to exit- Single press of ESC closes XnView windows regardless of setting of this option, so, what does it do?
ESC close current window, so when you are on the browser or on a view, ESC close this window, and you return on the XnView blanck window
- Options->Misc->For 'Save as', use same original pathname && format - what does this do? I tried saving a file with this option on and off but it seems there's no difference?
Save as use by default last pathname & format used, with this option, you use the format and pathname of picture loaded.
- I guess I need to d/l DejaVu and LuraWave plugins to display windows with their settings?
Yes
- Options->View->Force XnView to fit image- what does it do here? Regardless of setting, Fit Window to Image option in Auto Image size seems to take precedence over it?
This option resize global window
- Options->View->Display unit- what is it used for?
When size of selection is showed in status bar.
P.S. I just to want to be sure what all options exactly mean when veryfying translation :)
But i have not yet send you the sentences files????

Clo,

I tried "Reset EXIF orientation value on your picture" but regardless of setting, it does nothing- values for EXIF Orientation fields remain top-left (1). What may be the problem?

"Reset EXIF orientation value on your picture" will reset the value to "top-left (1)". If you have an image with top-left orientation (Landscape), surely nothing will happen. So if you want to see a change, you need JPG image with an other orientation (e.g. top-right).
