a button in "view" mode to switch background color

by herr_k.
i have usually a black background.
for example now i have a picture with a black border and i want to crop away the border right, i have to set manually in preferences another background color, crop, and set back to black in prefs.
it would be useful to switch to a predefined color just with a button click and back with another click.
thanks for listening ;).

I think there is a better way... Automatically show the image edge while cropping.

3 buttons !

:) Hello !

• With the suggestion discussed HERE (and above¦below) ages ago, you could get three different backgrounds
“on the spot” with buttons, also useful to view the images having transparency … :?

Perhaps change the background color automatically when cropping. I really don't want any additional option if there is another, better way.

:) Hello !

• The option is only to set colours once, then they would be used with buttons in the tool-bar,
making the feature fast, flexible, and usable also for another purpose, like explained in the linked thread…
- And "automatic" risks to fail with some grey hues, same issue than the selection coloursImage

Option + another toolbar?? It's even worse. It's not needed, if you want it only for cropping IMO.

I meant to automatically change to a special color, or background image when cropping, perhaps something like this - but it's just an example (I know this background is used for transparency), other colors, or completely different background image might be used.

OT - Other options for cropping would be much more useful IMHO, e.g. zoom window, as in Hypersnap, it would save lot of time we need now to zoom in, scroll, zoom out...

Kidding ?

:) Which "another tool-bar" ? Are you kidding ? Did I say : “Another tool-bar” ?
- Simply buttons in the normal tool-bar, since we can add buttons there now !
- Indeed that needs commands and a GUI for that option, but nothing more…

OK, but all skins need to be updated - and it's not as intuitive as another solution - auto-change background when cropping, why you don't like this idea?

:) Hello !

• Like I said already, there is no need to change the skin… Add extra icons from *.ico and so on.
- Please check the linked thread…

• I'm not against on principle, but it's limited to cropping only, and you'll get issues with dark grey hues.
- With a 3-background choice via buttons in the bar, you avoid that issue, and kill two birds with the same stone

OK, but it's the solution for few users only (less than 1%, or less than 0.01% IMHO).

I'm not agains this feature, but there are more important things to do, for more users...

What about a keyboard shortcut (+ menu item, perhaps) to change the background? Much easier to implement and use (IMO).

GUI is better… for me

:) Hello !
OK, but it's the solution for few users only (less than 1%, or less than 0.01% IMHO).
- The common TC¦XnView users are more numerous than your estimate, and are in the habit to set icons
at will in the bar, and even (in TC) to create as much bars as they wish
(originally supported circular call, or workarounds from add-ons…)
I'm not agains this feature, but there are more important things to do, for more users...
• Yes, in example language-files as text (and NOT XML, for pity's sake!), and related to that topic,
the Commands Manager, completed with the short cuts, of course.
- Menus, buttons, short cuts are parts of the same whole (like the three spokes on my wheel-avatar).
- As long as they will be treated separately by ant steps, the programme'll remain
a big patchwork, and not a coherent powerful soft as it could…
What about a keyboard shortcut (+ menu item, perhaps) to change the background? Much easier to implement and use (IMO).
• Nothing against, but in addition (see above the notion of united commands)…
- Personally, having a bit damaged hands, that's not easier at all :|
