I'm getting static screenshots of my gameplay

Hi. I'm using XnView on my Windows 98SE computer; computer has a AMD-K6 processor w/ multimedia extensions; MMX, at 266MHz; 64MB RAM, and I'm playing games (Independence War and Rex Nebular) on this computer, and I'm using XnView to capture screenshots of my gameplay. I've set XnView for multiple capture, hotkey F10, save screenshots as PNG images, and as I'm playing the game/watching the game's intro movie, I'm pressing the hotkey to capture screenshots, and there is some delay between the time I press the hotkey until I hear the bell (I think the bell indicates that a screenshot has been taken), and in the "tools > capture setup" section of Xnview under "capture" I have "desktop" selected; under "method" I have "hotkey" selected, while "delay (sec)" is left unselected. And when I look at these screenshot images I find that they are all black & white pictures of static (appearing as white snowflakes blowing across a black/dark gray background). Could anyone please tell me how I can get XnView to capture full-color screenshots of my gameplay experience? I undestand that XnView is compatible with Windows 98SE. Thank you very much.
