results from different platforms differ

the workflow i'm pursuing is to capture raw canon cr2 images into
a windows xp box, correct a sample image from the group using
xnview on the xp box, and then to apply the corrections as a batch
conversion to tga's on a linux (mandriva) box using nconvert.
i've just downloaded and installed the current versions (5.02 for
nconvert and 1.94.2 for xnview) and done a test run and found
that the images i see on my xp box don't match the ones coming
off of the linux nconvert box when i get them side by side.
is this a known thing? are my assumptions as to how i could use the
two apps in conjunction with each other flawed?
another question: what is the menu option in xnview that would
correspond to the -log command for nconvert?
thanks,
