'Open with' does not seem to work

Hi:

I am using Xnview 1.95.4.

I have been a user of Acdsee 4. When using Acdsee I was able to set it up so that if I wanted to edit a photograph I could select editor from within the program. This would automatically load Corel Photopaint. I had, of course, previously setup Acdsee to select that editor.

Xnview seemed to have the same ability. First I loaded a photograph. Then I clicked EDIT; OPEN WITH:

I was given a choice of 'Associated program' which originally opened Acdsee; a choice of 'Associated editor' which loads Windows Picture and Fax viewer; and a choice of 'Add Program'.

It seemed fairly easy to find Corel Phtopaint and select it. Unfortunately this program would not load. Also Xnview would lockup. I'm not sure but I think the choice Xnview gave me as the Corel executable file might have been only the icon file.

Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug. Also can I get around this problem by changing the 'Associated editor' choice from Windows Picture and Fax view to Corel Photopaint?

Thanks for the help.

cheers
Bryce

Bryce, right click the Corel Photo Paint icon you use to open the program and go to "properties". The "Target" will be the file you want to use when you set up "open with" in XnView.

Hi:

Thanks for your help.

In the end I found the proper exe file to run Photopaint and used the copy and paste function to insert the location of file into Xnview's 'Open With'.

The first time I tried this it worked but locked up Xnview. The next three times I tried it worked perfectly.

I then restarted the computer and tried again. Everything worked correctly.

Thanks again for the help.

cheers
