Problem with Search function (Ctrl-F)

Today I tried to use XnView version 1.96 to search for image files with "fav" in the description, a file size of less than 40 K and a date before 1/1/2004. I got MANY more results than I expected.

I checked the results and they had ALL file sizes and ALL dates. I tried it again and got the same results. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug in XnView? I use Windows XP SP 3.

Strange, i have not this problem. If you don't enter a description, same problem?

I do not have the problem without the description. With the description, XnView ignores both the date and size restrictions. I have tried three different descriptions. I get the same results with all of them.

Have you searched with a description plus size and date restrictions?

Pierre,

there seem to be a lot more of these errors,
especially if one combines a few items
(eg. file size bigger then .. AND format equal to ... AND EXIF ISO equal to ... AND IPTC caption equal to ... )
In the latter case the IPTC caption doesn't filter out anything,
regardless what you fill in in the caption string.

This is just an example, I am sure a lot more combinations will give similar results.

I have thought of something that might be relevant. The directory tree that I was searching has 38,012,673,137 bytes in 195,933 files and 1,337 directories. More than 99% of these files are pictures. The large number of files might be causing a buffer to overflow.

I tried it in a directory with less than 7,000 files. I got the same result. I tried using a description search AND date. I got all dates. I tried using a description search AND size. I got all sizes.
