Windows7 scanner incompatibilities

I am an avid XNView user and currently switched to Win7 RC (release candidate)
most programs in x86 mode work like a dream, much faster than under Vista (most notably Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 dictation, an extremely heavy user pgm)
XNview seems to work OK, however, I found one major glitch
I am working with a HP scanner driver for scanjet 5590
after calling up the scanner for a scan, 2 things happen:
1) Twain driver box comes up, but no response after clicking a button for a long time, after scanning and clicking for new scan same happens - XNView seems to wait for something, but what (other pgms with scanner like PDF are working OK)
2) XNview buttons on top bar seem to disappear, but reappear when scrolling over the top bar
Any suggestions?
