A few questions regarding XnView

Having used CompuPic Pro for many years and finding it's support is now defunct, plus it doesn't like Vista/Windows 7 or the Aero desktop, I've been searching for an alternative. I tried ACDSee Photo Manager 2009 but that crashed more times than the riders in the Tour de France!! Then I found XnView....

Now this does most everything that Compupic did and has been rock solid since I installed it, now I'd like to know if the following can be replicated in XnView that I could do in CompuPic:

1. Turn off Thumbnail creation by default and do it 'on demand' rather than all the time.
2. Turn off Thumbnails on Folders, I don't need that feature.
3. Single left click to exit Full Screen view.
4. Slideshows to start immediately, not keep showing the config screen each time, just remember the settings and play the slide show.
5. Left Click + Drag (Rubber Banding) to select files in the Browser View.
6. Select files in Full Screen View via Spacebar so when I'm browsing through files in Full Screen view I can select the ones I need and exit back to the Browser View and see them all selected.

I think that's all I need for now :)

I had 30 mins or so using the search but couldn't find anything to solve the above queries, any help appreciated.

Thumbnail creation can only be disabled or enabled
2. Turn off Thumbnails on Folders, I don't need that feature.
Option/File list => uncheck for folder
3. Single left click to exit Full Screen view.
Currently no way, dbl click or ESC
4. Slideshows to start immediately, not keep showing the config screen each time, just remember the settings and play the slide show.
Perhaps you can use the quick slide show
5. Left Click + Drag (Rubber Banding) to select files in the Browser View.
You have that
6. Select files in Full Screen View via Spacebar so when I'm browsing through files in Full Screen view I can select the ones I need and exit back to the Browser View and see them all selected.
Here you can use the tag feature

OK, I took your answers on board and worked through them:
DannyB wrote:

Thumbnail creation can only be disabled or enabled
I tried disabling caching thinking it would still display already cached thumbnails, it didn't as it creates them 'on the fly', so caching 'must' be enabled to see already cached thumbnails but I'll always get unwanted thumbnails being created. If that's how it works then I'll have to work that way.
2. Turn off Thumbnails on Folders, I don't need that feature.

Option/File list => uncheck for folder
I spotted that option but didn't realise what it did. However, I found that selecting the folders and using 'rebuild thumbnails' did not remove the folder thumbs from the database as going back to folder again showed the folder thumbs again? I had to manually remove the appropriate folders from the cache database, which also removed thumbs for any images in the same directory as the folders meaning I had to go back to those folders and re-create the image thumbs. A bit of a pain but only for already created thumbs on folders, newly created folders with images in won't be a problem!
3. Single left click to exit Full Screen view.

Currently no way, dbl click or ESC
Double Click will be OK or press middle mouse button works too I found.
4. Slideshows to start immediately, not keep showing the config screen each time, just remember the settings and play the slide show.

Perhaps you can use the quick slide show
How does quick slideshow work as there is no info in the help file? Wouldn't the simplest thing be to make the main slideshow config screen have an option to 'remember these settings' and then you can tag any files and just start a slideshow?
5. Left Click + Drag (Rubber Banding) to select files in the Browser View.

You have that
It did not work as expected? If you click in 'white space' i.e. where there are no images, then it works, but if you click and hold on an image then drag all that happens is the image under the cursor just gets copied when you release the button, it didn't create a selection box so you can select multiple images. I have Options > General > Keyboard/Mouse > Mouse > Left Button > Make Selection
set but doesn't appear to work?
6. Select files in Full Screen View via Spacebar so when I'm browsing through files in Full Screen view I can select the ones I need and exit back to the Browser View and see them all selected.

Here you can use the tag feature
How does that work? It works in browser view, show tags then press space bar to tag, but if I double click to view an image in full screen mode I don't seem to be able to find a way to tag a file?

Thanks for your patience and sorry for the all the questions :)
