Does XnView support IPTC tag #90 (Envelope.CharacterSet) ?

Hello,
I am using the latest version of XnView under Windows XP (French locale).
I have manually added IPTC tags (headine, caption, keywords) to a test photo, encoded in utf-8 (using exiv2).
I *believe* I have also set the Envelope.CharacterSet to the proper 3-byte sequence to indicate the utf-8 encoding. At least ExifTool says so
However when I open the image in XnView, IPTC tags appear with their accents mangled as with latin-1.
Maybe there is a problem with my tagging procedure, but before I look into it, can someone confirm that XnView under Windows is supposed to handle this properly ?
TIA,
fp
