Hi again,
I think, if Pierre agrees, that the file-type icon design can be revampted slightly. Xnview is a top-class app and deserves anything best with it IMO especially with Xnview MP just around the corner.
In private I am a very (very) amateur designer and play around in Photoshop and Paint.Net for fun and read tutorials etc.
I made this
Vista document icon - this would be suitable as a better background - can ya feel it!

500x631 | PhotoShop PSD | 347 kb
Download:
http://rapidshare.com/files/296888487/x ... c-icon.psd
If xnview.exe becomes bloated then the icons can be added into a separate .dll
I quickly made these but they may need correcting. Notice how I centred the Xnview 'eye' logo so that Mac OS users would better accommodated:
feedback on this proposal?

...Or maybe a feature like foobar2000, in where we can use custom file icons by putting them in an "Icons" folder within Xnview's folder but first making sure that each icon is named to a particular name so that Xnview recognizes it when properly writing the associations to the registry. >Furthermore thus allowing us to create, share and use file icons much like we can already do this with Xnview's toolbar

Have you considered making your icons available for download, budz45? Everybody could “install” them with
XFAM — no matter how the poll ends up.
(I don't feel qualified to vote for or against this suggestion, b/c I still don't have any hands-on experience regarding Windows 7 or Vista whatsoever.)

256x256 icons are useless unles are used for blind persons. The exe file size will grow just for a cosmetic change. Remember that majority have Win XP, not Vista with snail speed. Vote/do what you want.

I run Xp and vista on separate machines. I can upload a pic of standard size post-XP icons in Vista and they look atrocious in large folder views.
I think the new icons could be in a separate .dll that would always be located in the same folder as the xnview.exe.
The 256x256 larger size is future proof for Windows OS anyway especially with the recent successful release of Windows 7 (better than Vista). Furthermore because of the future of Xnview (Xnview MP) I have the original raw images to create 512x512 Mac icons, this is something that Mac community adore (Apple's HIG). I know it is all very cosmetic/fancy but isn't that what Xnview is about with regards to mutli image files, image displaying, manipulation etc

OK let me finish the 16x16 sizes

indeed, make up the icons and let them decide
meanwhile, make icons for the missing toolbar functions? So many have no icons now.
