Ability to display multipage icons as "Snapshot"

Hi again guys,
Gosh, i've been making actve on these forums lately, what can I say I ADORE Xnview and it's development :D

OK, in Xnview we can view icons .ico that have multiple icon sizes embedded in the file by going to View>Page (I use the Hotkey).

What I would like is to simply view all the sizes at the same time in one big preview. In Shelltoys 7.0 I can do this and in Axialis IconWorkshop I can also view all icon sizes with the "snapshot" feature.

I would dearly love to do this in Xnview also, this is a mock-up of what I created for this idea:
Image

This is a saved output of Axialis Iconworkshop's "create snapshot": (I editted and added the showing of the extension and file path for what I think should also show in Xnview)

These are the configurable settings in Axialis IconWorkshop's "create snapshot":

Shown in Shelltoys "view icons":

Shown in Shelltoys "inage size" (launched from 'image size'):

It would be awesome if Xnview and Xnview MP had this feature to display multipage icons like this

I support budz45's request.

File-type icons of ckv's (Unofficial) XnView file association manager:

A Snapshot is an image created automatically by IconWorkshop™ to show one or several icons (with embedded formats) on a decorated background. Creating a Snapshot Picture of your icons may be useful to make a visual archive of your icons, illustrate a website or just promote your work.

Three kinds of snapshots are available:
  • Detailed snapshot of one icon – The icon image formats are displayed in one raw.
  • Detailed snapshot of several icons – One icon per raw, several images per icon.
  • Quick/Thumbnail snapshot of several icons – Only one image per icon, several icons per raw.

Hi Xntriq buddy :)

Glad you support my idea. Yes I like your examples too and I think the layout (as like your examples) can all be configured with settings. For me I would be happy if it just displayed all icons in a single file like what I posted above:
Image
So I can launch icons (or drag n drop) and they will view like this with the feature enabled...

let's see what more people say

Would like to hear Pierre's opinion on this feature on whether it will make it in a future soon-enough release.

It would be so convenient for icon makers like myself. There are currently no other solutions to view all icon sizes at the same time except for using Shelltoys or Axialis IW

This needed in Xnview :D

Thanks JohnFredC

I am thinking that this feature when opening icons to display like this may just need the loading progress (because it is showing multiple image sizes in one icon) or will it just open smoothly??
Image

The ability to use Xnview's 'Export' and 'save as' to save the snapshot multipage to a png, jpg etc would be great. Now within the settings here http://i36.tinypic.com/n4tcaq.png I think the following could be added (these are just ideas):
=icon sort order settings (tickbox; biggest to smallest or vice versa and also unique custom)
=display text icon sizes under each icon page (tickbox)
=icon image formats to display (rgb, 256 colours)
=display numbered text */* to show amount of pages in icon
=display snapshot horizonally, vertically or diagonally
=display filename & filesize on the snapshot (a tickbox, with text size, position, text colour, bold, italic)
=display icon's file path (tickbox)
=A choice for Background image colour or Transparency on snapshot (tickbox)

I would like to add such feature in XnViewMP. But what is the best?
* menu entry in tools for example "open as snapshot"
or
* setting to open the file as snapshot in a view window?

* setting to open the file as snapshot in a view window?
This one, enabled by default IMHO.

Yes, as Dreamer said, this setting would be better (enabled by default) :D thank you for your approval Pierre. :)

IDK if you would have the extra time to add the other additional settings that I mentioned above like showing of file path, transparent background, text size & color etc...... Or maybe you just want to add the initial feature first and then wait add the extra enhancements later??

But not to push my luck so still thank you so much, Pierre, for understanding, I look forward to seeing this feature when ready soon.
