Hello,
Personally, I usually use XnViewMediaDetector before, to import my photo from the memory card, by this way I set the Options:
Destination: D:\home\photo-root\
Rename Files \ New File Name = <Y> <m> <D>_<r>.%e
( <r> is to keep the Image Number )
Create New Subfolder: Custom = <Y>_<m>_<D>
And I use Tools\Options\Browser\Thumbnails\Thumbnails Labels \ <Filename>
FI: I do not have any EXIF data field for the Image Number here

But you can also use into XnView v1.9x:
Tools\Options\Browser\Thumbnails\Thumbnails Labels\ Custom1 \ > \ Custom \ >> = <Filename Number> \ OK

This is all good. I try to keep always image number in the file name if I have to rename many files. But for now I some files in my computer which I have to sort out for myself and have to go every time to file's EXIF data to see original file's image number.

Can I change some how my programs setting to see this info in thumbnails & labels view?
