Long delay when viewing one image in a dir with >10k files

I have a directory with ~10000 images in it.
I use XnView as default viewer and when I double click one file XnView takes a long time until it finally shows up the image (by default only the image is displayed in fullscreen mode).
I assume XnView enumerates all the file in the directory before showing the file which is IMHO not necessary. That should be done in a background thread after the image has been loaded and displayed on the screen.
BTW: The default Windows XP image viewer does not have such a delay when opening the same file...
