Compacting the database

I download and take loads of pictures/graphics files and regularly transfer them to my external hard drive.
How does one compact the XnView database? Most graphics programs allow the user to do it manually, Picasa does it automatically.
TIA

PS XnView help and forum searched.

Hello ! Welcome aboard !
• The DB is compressed automatically :
Options (F12) >> Thumb nails >> [Cache] tab
I×I
Enable caching ticked and choose a compression method from the scrolling-list forward this box (I use
ZIP).

Kind regards,
Claude

Hi Claude,
Thanks for the welcome.
I mean the process of compacting the database after one has deleted files ("le compactage de la base de données après une a supprimé des dossiers" from Babelfish) , not compressing the database file itself. I do not intend
any insult by including the French translation.
I had a clear out yesterday and the only way I could shrink my database file from 300MB to 30MB was to delete it and rebuild it.
Regards
DrT

Hello !
…("le compactage de la base de données après une a supprimé des dossiers" from Babelfish)

OMG ! Such “translations” are
very dangerous for my old heart !

FYI :
la compression de la base de données après que l'on ait supprimé des dossiers…
• Well, I thought that you'll try the ¦
Optimize ¦ button on the above mentioned Option page…

- I can't swear that you'll get a 1¦10 size ratio like you quote, but it's the way I use from time to time…

Sorry for giving you a shock. You are lucky I did not use
my French

.
Thank you for enlightening me about the Optimise button.
Thanks

Hello !

• I think that it doesn't, the “Categories” DB is another file (here, it's even located @ a different place)…
