Catch O' The Day

I was looking for an answer on how to
install XnView on USB-stick and found
XnView Portable (“Repackaged with Launcher”).
The site's proprietor claimes he has “permission from author/developer Pierre.e Gougelet”.
Can anyone confirm this, and is it OK to refer users to
usb.SmithTech.us and/or
PortableSoftware.us?

Another quite interesting "catch". I think it's a good sign that there's stuff around XnView available, this indicates the popularity.

XnViewPortable.exe (10¾ MB) is a WinRAR self-extractor.
I compared its contents with those of the official v1.91.3 distribution (
XnView-win-full.zip) using
WMatch v2.
All files are identical, except for the following 7 which are only in
XnViewPortable.exe:
Code: Select all
\XnViewPortable\XnView Portable.exe
\XnViewPortable\App\XnView\xnview.ico
\XnViewPortable\App\XnView\xnview.ini
\XnViewPortable\App\XnView\default.bar
\XnViewPortable\App\XnView\category.db
\XnViewPortable\App\XnView\category.bak
\XnViewPortable\App\XnView\cache\XnView.db

A bit strange that they have included the category.db and the cache stuff.

Wakoopa tracks what kind of software or games you use, and lets you create your own software profile.
Discover the best software and get to know who use 'em, for how long and why.

What a treasure you have found, XnTriq!

It's very interesting to see which software is used by other people - and XnView does not rate too bad.

Some two years ago I found an old
Interview with Pierre on a “russian page of XnView”. It's still there...

Ouch, it was the old russian web site, perhaps 2001
German all around the world...

As you can see in the
XnView Screenshot, Polish people love the German language and even prefer it to English. And the same with the
Czech people.
The story behind it:
A longer time ago, Pierre had German Screenshots on the English webpage. And now those German screenshots can be found all around the world... (not verified).
