I'm a little annoyed that, if you <Esc> from a running slideshow, then <Esc> again, then go back to Tools>Slideshow, you notice that XnView has unloaded your list from memory.
XnView start slideshow with current selection, so you would like that if no selection so slideshow start with old filelist??

I don't often start my Slideshows from the Browser. Most of the time I use Slideshow simply to view a specific folder. I choose the folder directly from the "Browse for Folder" dialog that appears when one clicks the "Add Folder" button in the Tools>Slide Show window, then view the contents.

I don't think it should be necessary to save every folder viewed to an .sld file, just so a folder can be viewed again in Slideshow. I prefer to save folder lists to .sld when I know I'm making changes in another application to the files in a certain folder, and I might want to see if XnView sees the changes. To date, it's been very good at doing this.

In other words, while one has XnView running, or at the very least run as the frontmost application, it should remember which was the last folder viewed and, as an extra, the last file viewed in that folder (though I can think of instances when that could get annoying).

Perhaps working something into Slideshow where the folder chosen to be viewed is automatically written to a "temp.sld" (applying the user's options for Slideshow as usual) in the Application Data folder for XnView for the user at the keyboard, and then give the user an option either to delete that file in place when all instances of XnView are exited from or save it to a "real" .sld somewhere else on their hard disk/s, would be the way to go about it.

So you would like that if you don't select files or folder, slideshow dialog show last files used??

That's it. While XnView is running, it should "remember" the last folder or list "played" in Slideshow and display it when the Slideshow dialog is asked for again.

One thing I am missing within Xnview is the ability to zoom/pan/etc. within a slideshow (I thought that was the question in the first post of this thread). For selecting pictures I use ZtreeWin (www.ztree.com) which allows tagged file names to be exported to a text file. I managed to create the sld header too but the missing zoom and pan annoy. Is there a reason why XnView is crippled down in slideshow mode? Or am I missing something obious that makes it possible already?

So to understand your request, you want to be able to pause a running slideshow in order to inspect the image more closely using the tools available in an XnView viewer tab, then resume the slideshow when you are ready?

I like this idea. Perhaps with options to "lock" the zoom ratio and panning position between images.

Yes. I use Ztree to select the files I want to view and the only possibility to feed them into XnView I see is to use a slideshow file (sld). But then I am not able to zoom and pan single files. When I view files on a 16:9 TV and some are in portrait mode then I only a fraction of the screen is used. Then I would like to zoom and pan to inspect the picture, then continue (or step backwards) with the other files.

You can pretty much do what you want in full screen mode except for the automatic sequencing of images.

But how do I get my file name list into XnView full screen mode? When feeding them in with the -slide parameter then XnView starts in slideshow mode.

In lieu of the feature requested here and as a "work around":

One approach would be to assign a new Category to the images for your "slide show", then show only that Category in the Browser and initiate your fullscreen navigation from there.

Actually, if you use this "Category" method before building the original slideshow (instead of working "backwards" from the slideshow), then XnView will do what you want without further enhancement.

WorkFlow
  • 1. Create new category "Slideshow 1"
    2. Assign images to category "Slideshow 1"
    3. Select category "Slideshow 1" (only!) in the Browser
    4. Select first image
    5. Fullscreen

    or

    4. Edit->Select All
    5. Create->Slideshow
For further modification to the mix of images in the slideshow, start by modifying the Category contents...

I think you don't understand what I want: I use Ztree to select the files that I want to see in a slideshow. These pictures can vary. The only way I can get this list of file names out of Ztree (and into XnView) is a text file (I only found SLD files that can import into XnView). From Ztree I am able to automatically generate the file and then start XnView. So I am able to see all the selected pictures in XnView with two keystrokes. The only problem I have is that XnView is in slideshow mode when starting it with -slide parameter and for an unknown reason then the + and - and pan keys do not work. I am wondering why?
