I am using Xnview 1.97 with Windows 7 x64 and after running using Windows Update Xnview crashes with the following message:

xnview.exe - Bad Image
---------------------------
C:\Windows\system32\AVIFIL32.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.

To check it, I uninstalled the 5 updates that came out today and it ran fine. Went back to Windows Update, DL'd the 5 updates and it crashes all the time with the error above. I can try it out one at a time if necessary to find out which update breaks Xnview if needed.

After tracking it down, Security Update for Windows7 for x64-based Systems (KB975560) is the one that causes Xnview to not work and crash any time I open it. Is there a way until a solution is found to make Xnview not want to use the AVIFIL32.dll file so it will work for me?

No I did not try to display a movie, I just tried to start Xnview. I left the security update off my system for a few days after an email exchange with Microsoft. They give free support for security updates that break programs. Yesterday I re-applied the security update and Xnview worked fine. I don't know if they fixed something or maybe the update caused a registry problem that was fixed when this time I re-applied the security update. I had done this at least 5 times w/no success. Now it worked!

I recently tried to run v1.97 off a USB flash drive on a system that was booted from a VistaPE Live CD. XnView didn't crash, but I got an error message telling me that avifil32.dll could not be found.
