What are the rules of "Sort by" please ?

Hi,

I have an explorer replacement called Directory Opus.
- In there I have the browsing pane sorting method set at :
Numeric Order Filename Sorting

In that program files are sorted like this :

Image.png
Image (2).png

(ATTENTION : There's a space inbetween Image and (2).png !)

However, when I view the file Image.png with XnView by doubleclick in my explorer program, XnView shows the file, unfortunatelly when I click the button assigned to show the next file, it jumps over the file Image (2).png.

Xnview is configured like this :
Sort by : Name (numeric) + Ascending

Xnview, for whatever reason sorts them the other way around, in the browser mode, it shows Image (2).png before Image.png

So If I doubleclick the first file to show up in Xnview, I have to press the Show previous shortcut key to able able to see the next file in my explorer.......

Please, are there any rules which XnView regarding the sorting method. AFAIK All other program which sort by this method, place the Image.png file before Image (2).png, unfortunatelly XnView is the only one to handle it differently ?

Is there any way to make XnView use the same sorting as my explorer please ?

Thanks in advance, hopefully getting any response. :P

Strange, if you view Image.png from XnView by double-clicking or F11, do you have the same problem?

Hi Pierre,

Thanks for looking into it, when I view from the browser (F11) I also have that problem.

The main reason, even in the browser window the files are sorted in a "weird" order, ie. it considers a space to be sorted before a .(dot).

So also in the Xnview browser, it sorts like this :

Image (2).png
Image (3).png
Image.png

while it should be the other way around imho, all other viewers, explorers & explorer replacements use this method, can you please look into the Xnview sorting method, ie. giving .(dot) a higher sorting position than space.

Thank you very much for replying.

Yes it's the standard sort.
You have not this order when you view in fullscreen?
