Print Quality

Just installed the product. Messing around resizing photos and beta tested printing out a couple on regular paper. I have a Canon PIXMA MP620 printer. I have the printer settings as such to conserve on ink. The visual quality of the prints is poor. I tried 1 color and 1 black and white. Several horizontal yellowish orange lines are running through the photos and the print is very light. I assume that I have to change the printer settings but when I printed these off under the MP Navigator Program for Canon, the quality of the print was better? Some of my print cartridge colors are running low but are not out. Thx in advance for the help.
