JPEG XR / HDP / WDP Bugs

I am experimenting with the new JPEG XR format (also called HDP). XnView refers to this file format as a WDP. Not sure why.

XnView is only partially successful managing these files. I have encountered 3 bugs so far.
  • 1. Incorrect image dimensions are reported for HDP and WDP files in custom thumbnail labels.
    2. HDP and WDP thumbs are not correctly sized to the thumbnail cartouche.
    3. XnView does not read (and consequently will not write to the WDP) EXIF data stored in an HDP file.
The following image shows these bugs. I saved a JPG to an HDP in Zoner, then opened the file in XnView, made some changes, and saved as WDP.

Notice the discrepancy between the dimensions reported in the Info pane and those reported in the thumbnail cartouche. Also: the thumb image is too small and the EXIF tab is missing. (I included the JPG thumb to illustrate the proper thumbnail appearance for my XnView settings.)

The original HDP (with included EXIF) can be found here.

No JPEG XR and WDP are not the same. WDP is the old HD photo format.

Hi Pierre

Sorry for the difficulty. Try "Save Link As..." on this link.

I was under the impression that WDP been "re-branded" to JPEG XR, but that the file format itself hadn't changed.

Another image tool treats HDP and WDP similarly.

It's the same codec, but not the same format... You can't rename WDP as HDP
