How come no Microsoft Office (WORD, EXCEL) support?

Hello,

I am coming from Paperport, and I am amazed at this product. So many reasons this product
rocks: features, customizations, and speed. Thanks.

A thing I miss, is the thumbnail previews and in program viewing of Microsoft Office
products? (Word doc, Excel xls, etc). I did notice Powerpoint does seem come up
in thumbnails.

Is there a reason these formats have been avoided? (you don't like microsoft?
I should switch to openOffice?) Any chance these formats will be supported?
(xnviewmp?)

Thanks

bump

Sorry to harp, but this is unfortunately turning into a big issue here at my company. As
we look at trying to migrate from Paperport(boo) to XnView/XnViewmp.

So is Word/Excel thumbnails not supported for a reason? Is this something that a developer
could to do? Or do people here prefer some other product maybe? It just seems we have
a lot of Documents that come up with just an icon.

Thanks in advance for the thoughts and inputs.

Thank you for the link.

So now the question is, can this be solved? Is this a technical, time/financial resources or religious reason?

it's an image viewer, not a universal thumbnailer. it's up to Microsoft Office to provide thumbnailers. They don't because you already have Microsoft Office (WORD, EXCEL) viewers.
if xnview cost $100 and had 100 staff maybe they'd get around to this, but not currently.

The 2007 and up versions sometimes have embedded thumbnails easily accessible in the zip, mostly in powerpoints: <root>\docProps\thumbnail.jpeg. That might get you part of the way. The older versions also do, but you have to parse the binary IStream file format to get to them.
