I've seen some cool improvements suggested for the Crop tool, as a darkening of the outside area for example, but, unless I missed them) nothing about these features:
- - It would be really great to be able to rotate the cropping area, as in Photoshop. Indeed there are many cases where you just would like to put the horizon right
- - When we crop a photo, in many cases we would like to preserve the aspect ratio. This could be done by scaling the cropping area when we press the Shift key and move one of its corners (the origin of the scaling would be the corner diagonally opposed to the moved corner). It would be a very very useful behavior
One again Phososhop is a good reference for that behavior (Photoshop has a lot of very cleaver shortcuts)
- - Once we apply a crop on a picture, this one, obviously, have smaller dimensions. In many cases we would like to get an image with the same size. I then suggest a new Crop and Resize tool that would apply a resize after the crop. In the GUI (see attached image) it is very important to preview the new possible sizes. This feature may sounds tricky but in fact it would be so useful for many of us dealing with large amount of family photos
How many times have you cropped a poorly framed picture and realized afterwards that the saved image is smaller than the others?
Note: A list of algorithms to use for the resize could also be added in a combobox the dialog window
