XnView and metadata, how does it work?

Hi,
I've usually worked with IPTC-metadata with my images, but I've learned that XMP might be better and with more advantages than IPTC (ie. more supported image formats). So can XMP replace IPTC? And what formats does XnView support for XMP?

XnView works only on IPTC, but can create XMP from IPTC
XnViewMP works on IPTC or XMP

So if I edit metadata in IPTC, I can get a XMP copy of that data? (JPG & TIF?)
2nd question: Can XnView
read/display XMP from other formats than JPG & TIF?

Yes, if XMP is activated in IPTC dialog

XMP can be imported from JPEG/TIFF/PNG/PSD
