Solution to detect & extract pictures from scans?

Hello XnView community!
I have dozens of scans (*tif), each within 2-5 justified photos. In this case "justified" means: the photos are almost vertically & horizontally arranged.
Example of a scan:
Now I'm looking for a solution to extract each photo as automatically as possible. I've allready tried solutions like PSE8 "divide scanned imanges" and "magic extraction" (sorry, I don't know the exact English desctiption because I have a German version). However, the results are far away from everything that should assist me. So I decided to execute this work manually. I switched to Gimp because of PSE8 lack of customized shortcuts. But the next problem I recognized was that I had to correct each save name. Gimp (and PSE8 too) doesn't offer an option to adapt the save name if it allready exist. Only overwrite or abort.
Now I want to test XnView and, as I said; I'm looking for a feasbile solution. Any tips are welcome.
PS: A feasible solution for me would be e.g.: "select an area (photo) and with one shortcut -> save as new image in a predefined folder with a predefined save name + continuously number"
