Hello,
Since few days or weeks under Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 32bits LTS, when I try to sketch a rectangle (see the screenshot in fullscreen mode or view mode), it's not smooth as before (smalls freezes).
Image
Maybe it's due to an Ubuntu package Update or only specific here ???
Does someone else have this kind of behavior ?

I haven't looked yet, but if you happen to use a nvidia card, I thought their default "nouveau" driver was a poor performer with tasks such as playing video. It had much hesitation compared with either "nv" or "nvidia-glx" drivers.

Hello Mash,
Thanks for your input.
My GPU card is an ATI Radeon HD 4670

Code: Select all

$ lspci | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV730XT [Radeon HD 4670]
And I use the default Ubuntu 10.04 video driver: xserver-xorg-video-radeon, I have also tried the driver from ati (catalyst 10.4) but it doesn't work properly, I will try the 10.5 version next month.
PS: Yes I know, Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 is not yet ready for some graphic cards (the free default video drivers)
An example here for ATI: http://www.x.org/wiki/RadeonFeature
But I not sure this is the reason, because I didn't had this problem before (few weeks ago), with my Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Linx.
So ???

No selection freezes here with Debian testing. Maybe another window manager like Xfce's or Openbox would make a difference. Using Wine and v.1.97, I'll sometimes see a dialog not appear in fullscreen but changing the window manager solves it.

Hello, it's strange because I have tested on my eepc under Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 too (Gnome & Lubuntu window manager too, and with almost all the same packages up to date too, but not the same GPU) and I do not have this behavior (the smalls freezes when I try to sketch a rectangle in fullscreen mode).
So I will try Lubuntu, Xfce's or Openbox on my desktop to see if it's the same, but I think it's a GPU issue driver !

Ok, I have just tried the new ati catalyst driver rev. v10.5 for my GPU, and now it's OK, I do not have this problem :D
So it's not related to XnView - sorry !
