hello, sorry was on holiday a while, thanks for the reply but i can't seem to make it work:
Im running Win7-64 & XnView 1.97.4
I tried unziping the zip.zip & archive.zip's to 'Addon' 'Addons' & 'Plugins' under
C:\Program Files (x86)\XnView
tested on a few zip/rar archives containing jpgs neither combination seems to work?

given that zip/rar makes jpg from 97-102% of its old size, and it chews up your CPU/HDD, I suggest you either use NTFS compression (which will give you the same) or just unpack everything

FAQ
'Let's talk about Plug-Ins... ...and AddOns' might help.
Could you please check whether the ZIP addon is installed properly (check is described in the FAQ above)?

Hi, thanks for the pointers,
I now have a default install of XnView 1.97.6 with:
http://www.xnview.com/download/addons/archive.zip
extracted to :
C:\Program Files (x86)\XnView\AddOn
This will let me view images inside zip files when I launch XnView then browse to the zip file, but only individually, I can't jump to the next file in the zip.
I also can't right click zip files and open with XnView. It just returns the error:
"Format of the file <file> could not be determined"
Keeping the images in zip files is essential as millions of content is distributed this way, even if its not a smart idea!
