xnview crashes when PDFs are large

Hi all,
I have just recently enabled the option to show thumbnails of PDF files. But some of my PDF files are large, say, over 8 mb, and Xnview crashes when it tries to load these files. It does fine if I remove all PDFs that are over about 6 mb.

I have the latest Xnview version (1.97.6) and Vista home premium. I can view all the files in Zoner Photo Studio 12, but I like Xnview much better, and have used it for a long time.

Would anyone have a way I can browse these files as thumbnails? I have tried shrinking the PDF files, but I can't get all of them to be down to 6 mg. Thanks for any ideas.

Hi Rose :-)

Is GhostScript installed on your system?

Welcome to the forum!

Oh, sorry, I should have mentioned that both AFPL and GPL are installed. The smaller PDFs will display fine, but if the larger ones are in the directory, Xnview stops working.

But I discovered a strange thing since I posted. I don't have this problem on my laptop.

So, I guess there is something wacky on the desktop machine, but I don't have a clue what to look for.

Things I would try:
-Having a single Ghostscript installed, not two.
-Another version.
-Options... General>Read/Write>Read>Eps/ps/ai/pdf ___DPI [72]
-Options... Browser>File list> [####]Kb (change number to hide large thumbnails).

Thanks for the ideas.

I uninstalled all ghostscript versions, then installed the latest GPL version, which I need anyway for Irfanview.

Also fiddled with the options, but didn't have any real success.

Finally, I deleted the whole directory, and copied the one from the laptop.

That seems to have fixed the problem. Of course, that's what I wanted, but it would be nice to know what went wrong, so I could be on guard against it in the future.

Anyway, problem solved. Again, thanks for taking the time to offer help.
