Uninstalling 1.97.8 corrupts default browser key

Using Win 7 with IE8 as my default browser, I uninstalled XNView 1.97.8. IE8 was no longer my default browser and I could no longer get that key to remain set. I tried various settings to rectify the situation but nothing would stick. I solved the problem using System Restore which brought back XNView. For now I am unable to uninstall XNView.

It's really strange, XnView doesn't change registry keys for IE or Outlook...
Do you use the setup package?
Is it Win7 32 or x64?

I am willing to try again but only in a few days.

I have now successfully un-installed 1.97.8.
This is what I did.
I over-installed XNVivew and then re-booted. Created a restore point (for security) and then used control panel to un-install. The un-install worked perfectly.
Thank you for your help.

I just had a similar problem: I uninstalled Xnview and then immediately noticed that I had lost my internet browser file association and could not reestablish it. I checked the default programs applet in control panel and found that there were no programs at all listed under "set your default programs." I performed a system restore to a point a few hours before the Xnview uninstall and that restored my default program settings. Now I am afraid to uninstall Xnview. Could you explain a little more fully what you did? Especially when you say you "over-installed" Xnview? Thank you.

Besides taking precautions of creating a system restore point, I re-installed XNview over itself and then performed an uninstall which worked fine.
