MP 0.30 Win Disappearing Preview

I was so excited about this new beta.

The first thing I tried was closing the browser Preview. In previous versions it was not possible to redisplay the Preview once it was closed.

No apparent change in beta 0.30...

Once the Browser Preview is closed, there is no active menu item to redisplay it.

Closing/restarting MP re-enables the Preview menu, but it does not respond.

When you click on Browse icon, you have not the browser??

Hi Pierre

As usual with this particular bug, I am confused about what happened.

This image shows that a thumb is selected, that the Preview is hidden, and that I should be able to click View->Info Pane->Preview to show the Preview, but nothing happens when I do.

Hi Pierre

Sorry I started this thread in the wrong place. Please move as you see fit.

I finally got a preview panel to re-appear by restoring a custom layout, but...

Here is another weird Preview problem:

Image

Notice the following peculiarities in the image

1. An image has been selected (IMG_3587.jpg) AND
2. ...the Info panel matches the image and has correct data BUT
3. ...the Preview panel is visible but empty (does not show IMG_3587.jpg).
4. View->Info pane->Preview is disabled!!!!

Yes, 0.31 is much better.

I haven't tested every possible combination, but...

...View->Info Pane->Preview is always disabled.

Yes, if the preview is in Tabs, you can't hide it. If the preview is floating, so you can

Below is a pic of a layout pair I would like to work in. It has two usage modes, "Only Thumbs" or "Thumbs+Preview+Info-in-tabs". Currently (0.31) it is not possible to switch between these two modes with one click because...

...if the Preview is floating, its visibility is disconnected from the visibility of the Info panel. The user has to make two UI choices (one for each pane) to hide/show both panels.

Pierre, would you consider adding an "Hide/Show Info AND Preview in-one-click when Preview-is-in-float-mode " toolbar button?

MP 0.3x took a big leap in functionality over 0.2x. :D

A setting to close the 2 panels if you close info or preview pane?

Hi Pierre

As I mentioned in a recent PM to you, I think the design of the panel visibility controls needs to be revisited. I have thought more about it since then. It is very difficult to explain, so here is my proposed change to the menu instead:
  • (•) Show thumbs only
    [ ] Show Tree
    Configure Tree >
    [x] Link Preview and Info
    [x] Show Preview
    [ ] Show Info
    Configure Info >
I'm really trying to get to an UI that allows a quick toggle into thumbs-only mode.

What do others think?

Hello JohnFredC,
Why not, but it's already possible to do this kind of thing within XnViewMP0.30 in full screen mode ( toggle in full screen mode / viewthumbstrip ) just by moving the mouse at the top of the screen + scroll among the thumbnails.

Hi oop66

The full-screen film-strip/navigator is cool but not as useful as the browser. I meant simply a browser full of thumbs:

I work frequently in this mode and would like a quick method of switching into and out of it.

Perhaps relying solely on the layout menu would work, but until the bug mentioned at the top of this thread is fixed, that isn't a viable option. I still haven't figured out how to get the Preview to display once hidden.

OK, I better see, but in this case, maybe it's also possible to add an option to show only "a browser full of thumbs" instead current browser layout mode (with some extra options as you mentioned above) ?, and for a quickly switching behavior, my "old" suggestion here:
http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.p ... 330#p83330

PS: maybe it is also possible to play with the different layouts (save/restore)
layout1 - default (browser+thumbnails view + preview)
layout2 - only thumbnails view
layout3- only browser
...

This is a situation where I really miss the buttons on the splitters a la XnView 1.9x!!

Pierre, is it possible to have the buttons-on-splitters in MP?

Buttons-splitters will not help you if preview is not as info tab...
Why you don't use layout save/restore??
